brief explanation:

one of the prohibitions of the holiday of Pesach is,

the ownership of chametz (leavened bread

e.g. bread, cookies, pasta, etc)

and being that in our days

a lot of us have plenty of products

that we don't want to just throw out,

the halacha permits us to sell our chametz products

to a gentile for the entire period of Pesach,

in order that it shouldn't be under our ownership.

this year the Chief Rabbi of Japan

Rabbi Binyomin Edery

will be selling all chametz that people would like to pass over to the ownership of a gentile.
